About the event
Your visit to Blue Mermaid:
Blue Mermaid is a historic replica of the original Thames sailing barge of the same name that was lost to a mine in the Thames Estuary in WW2. She was built for Sea-Change Sailing trust and entered service in 2019. She is used for life-skills-building residential voyages for young people and vulnerable adults, and maritime heritage training. Blue Mermaid is also able to carry up to 110 tonnes of cargo entirely under sail.
Come aboard and meet the crew and view the displays in the hold, informing people of the Heritage of Thames sailing barges on our coastline, and about the work they do today, and then settle down to enjoy the film whilst seated in the hold of a traditional engineless working vessel.
- Free tickets, but pre-booking recommended.
- Dress warmly and wear suitable footwear.
- Unfortunately there is no wheelchair access or hearing loop.
- Allow 30 minutes to view displays before the film.
- Sea-toilets available onboard, though we recommend using on-shore toilets beforehand
- No dogs allowed except assistance dogs.
